West End Dental Inc Reopening
West End Dental is excited to begin seeing patients safely. These are unprecedented times, and we want to reassure you that we have taken every precaution to ensure your safety and wellbeing during your visit.

We are limiting the number of patients in the office in order to maintain appropriate social distance. We ask that you provide your own face mask when in the office, use provided hand sanitizer, and that you come to your appointment alone unless accompaniment is required.

All patients will be screened with a contactless temperature check, pulse oximeter reading, and verbal questionnaire.

We ask that you understand that our provider's time is more crucial than ever and request that you be prompt to your appointment, arriving no sooner or later than your appointment time. Understand that if you cancel your appointment less than 48 hours in advance or are more than 15 minutes late to your visit, we will charge your account a $75.00 non-refundable fee.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during these unprecedented times. Please watch the video below for more information.

Dentistry For Kids
Portland, OR

Children smiling together about their fun visit to their dentist in Portland, Oregon. At West End Dental, we want to enable you and your children to maintain the highest standard of oral hygiene in order to prevent cavities and infection.

Your child’s baby teeth are important, and it is vital to keep them clean, ensure they leave the mouth normally, and that you create a healthy space for incoming permanent teeth. While regularly cleaning teeth at home is an ideal habit to observe, you should also make sure to bring your child in for regular dental exams. By doing so, we have a greater opportunity to protect your child’s dental health and to find potential problems early when they are most treatable.

The Importance Of Dental Exams For Your Children

Despite the efforts of parents across the United States, tooth decay is the most common oral disease among children. By the time children get to kindergarten, almost half of them have some degree of tooth decay. This situation is best prevented by bringing your child in for early and regular dental exams. In addition, we can use fluoride treatments and/or sealants to help prevent cavities from occurring.

With our help, we can make sure you are brushing young teeth properly, move your child away from pacifiers and towards drinking out of a cup, and see if there are any habits you can change to steer your child away from future preventable dental decay. By working with us to give your children robust teeth, they will speak more clearly, chew food easily, and smile with confidence.

Preparing Your Child For Their First Dental Visit

It is common for children to experience anxiety at the thought of visiting the dentist but, with our help, we can turn the dental visit into a positive and fun experience. A great first step is to watch some videos online targeted to kids that can simplify what dentists do and how the average visit can play out.

Next, you can help to set expectations by answering any questions your child may have in terms and tones that are both simple and comforting. Sometimes bringing a favorite stuffed animal or toy can also serve to mitigate the stress and provide a source of familiarity. By taking these steps, you help to make your child’s first and subsequent visits to the dentist as stress free and easy as possible.

How We Create An Anxiety Free Environment

When you come in with your child for their dental visit, you will not be alone in easing away their anxiety. Our dentists know how to engage with your child in a manner that is both positive and encouraging. We explain to your child how, though a visit to the dentist can occasionally be uncomfortable, it is not a scary experience and it is designed to leave them healthier than they were before.

Our dentists will work directly with you to present a calm and inquisitive front to your child that will encourage them to be curious about what is happening, and not fearful. The last thing we want is for your child to be terrified of visiting our dentists, so we will be at your side to make sure that does not occur. If you are concerned that your child may be especially nervous or anxious, we also offer dental sedation options that are safe for children, including nitrous oxide.
