3D Cone Beam

3D Cone Beam 3D Scanner at West End Dental At West End Dental, our goal is to provide you the best possible oral health care. That includes removing barriers that could limit accurate diagnoses. There are situations where 2-dimensional imaging is insufficient to make an accurate diagnosis, whereas the information provided in a 3-dimensional image identifies or more clearly defines that which 2-dimensional imaging can not. The 3D cone beam is an imaging technology that uses computed tomography to capture a 3-dimensional image of your mouth. The imaging technology is similar to that of a digital x-ray, but the actual image produced is similar to those produced by a CT scan, but at a much smaller dose of radiation compared with medical CT scans.

Along with showing us images of your teeth and your jawbone, we are also able to see soft tissues and nerve. The image is captured by a cone-shaped x-ray beam that rotates a complete 360 degrees around your head, just as a panorex machine does. As it rotates, it takes multiple pictures. The technology takes these images and stitches them together to create a single 3-dimensional image.

The image that we capture using the 3D cone beam allows us to provide a more accurate diagnosis, and create a more effective treatment plan. The image can be used for a variety of different things, including the evaluation of:
•  impacted teeth
•  root morphology and root canal aberrations
•  sinus cavities, nasal passageways, and nerve passageways
•  resorption processes of teeth
•  pain of unknown origin
•  TMJ problems
•  tumors that we find in your jaw
•  structures prior to reconstructive surgery.
•  bone morphology, and when used with our implant planning software, optimal placement for dental implants.

How Does the 3D Cone Beam Work?

From the time the scan begins to the time it ends, your scan will take less than one minute to complete. However, it is essential that you remain completely still as the cone beam rotates around your head. In just a few seconds following the completion of your scan, the high-quality 3-dimensional image appears on our computer monitor, ready for reading.

When indicated, Using 3D cone beam technology, can enable us to make a more accurate diagnosis of oral health issues plaguing your mouth, and create a customized treatment plan that will provide you with the best possible results. Call West End Dental to learn more at (503) 446-2957.
