Smile Makeovers![]() Teeth WhiteningTooth discoloration can be caused by several different things. Certain types of foods and beverages, tobacco products, even medications, can dull the brightness of your enamel. Professional teeth whitening is designed to help eliminate stains from your teeth, including ones that affect deeper into your enamel and dentin. At West End Dental, we offer several types of home whitening, all of which are more effective that store-bought treatments. Treatment this way takes one to two weeks, with results beginning to show in less than a week. To keep your teeth appearing whiter after the initial treatment, we recommend continuing to use the whitening agents periodically. BondingBonding is a procedure that is often done to correct minor imperfections in the surfaces of your teeth. This treatment uses composite resin, a tooth-colored material that is made up of fine glass, plastic, and other materials. The procedure is quick and painless, generally taking less than an hour to complete. Composite resin can be shaped and molded to correct a variety of minor issues, including chips, cracks, gaps, and black triangles. Black triangles are spaces created between front teeth when there has been some recession of gum tissue. Dr. Krippaehne uses the Bioclear technique to correct these problems. VeneersVeneers are another option for treating imperfections. Typically made from porcelain, veneers are thin shell-like structures that are made to be bonded to the fronts of your damaged teeth, effectively covering over the imperfections: discoloration, spotting, chipping, areas of wear, space) and restoring the appearance of your smile. Porcelain veneers are strong and can last for many years with proper care. Unlike composite veneers, they maintain their color and luster indefinitely. They are also able to perfectly mimic the color and light reflection properties of your natural enamel. CrownsIf your teeth are faced with more significant damage or decay, more than just the appearance of your smile is affected. This type of damage can compromise the strength of your teeth as well as the health of your mouth. For more significant damage, gold or ceramic crowns may need to be placed. For a crown, a tooth is sculpted, carefully shaping it so that a prosthesis made of gold or porcelain can be fabricated to fit over it providing circumferential support and restoring shape and function. Ceramic crowns look just like your natural teeth, the material perfectly able to match their color and the way in which they reflect light. Dental ImplantsDental implants are a modern treatment for replacing missing teeth. They provide you with an ideal alternative to traditional bridges and dentures. In most cases, utilizing dental implants help replace teeth without creating otherwise unnecessary need for dental work on teeth adjacent to the missing teeth. This treatment uses small titanium posts, which are surgically placed into your jaw, and are used to support crowns, bridges, or dentures. Dental implants also help preserve the bone that used to support the teeth that were once present. Without them, there can be extensive atrophy of the bone complicating future treatment. Correcting Alignment IssuesMisaligned teeth used to be treated almost exclusively with brackets and wires. This was a tremendous barrier for adults especially, as they were reluctant to this type of treatment for various social reasons. At West End Dental, we employ the use of Invisalign® clear aligners for treatment of misaligned teeth. With clear aligners, your teeth can be straightened discreetly, without drawing unwanted attention to the obvious hardware of traditional braces. The ability to remove the aligners to eat and clean your teeth during treatment is a huge advantage of Invisalign clear aligner treatment. In many instances, teenagers are candidates for clear aligner therapy as well. Gum TreatmentsThe appearance of your teeth plays a critical role in the appearance of your smile; the lips and gums provide the frame of your smile. Even if your teeth are perfectly straight, white, and blemish free, the appearance of your gums can potentially distract from an otherwise beautiful smile. Excess gum tissue or excessively worn teeth, can make your otherwise perfect teeth look small and square while imparting a much older appearance. Recessed gum tissue can make your teeth appear too long. Excess gum tissue can be treated with aesthetic crown lengthening, restoring a natural gumline while lengthening the appearance of your teeth and creating a more youthful appearance. If you have been faced with gum recession, a gum graft may be recommended. A smile makeover can completely transform your smile, as well as give you a much-needed boost of confidence.
