Dr. James Krippaehne was born in Portland, Oregon, graduating from Beaverton High School in 1980. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Oregon in 1984 and his dental degree from Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), Cum Laude, in 1988. He chose to spend the next two years in post-graduate training at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas. During this time he received advanced training in all aspects of dentistry including cosmetic, surgical, sedation, and implant dentistry. Upon returning to Portland, Dr. Jim joined his father, Dr. John Krippaehne and they practiced together for ten years.
Dr. Krippaehne maintains memberships in numerous professional societies including Multnomah Dental Society, Oregon Dental Association, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Association of Dental Sleep Medicine and the American Academy of Clear Aligners. He is a past Fellow of the American Association of Hospital Dentists. He received his Masters in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2012, an award achieved by less than 1% of all general dentists. This title requires 1100 hours of multi-discipline continuing education. The award speaks to the organization's value of excellence in dentistry through continuing education. Dentists who have earned mastership offer their patients cutting-edge care. Dr. Krippaehne completed advanced training in obstructive sleep apnea and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. This designation is the gold standard in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea by dentists and represents a commitment to provide the highest level of care within this field of practice.
West End Dental embodies Dr. Jim's philosophy of providing dental care. That philosophy is to help the patients understand their treatment options, provide dental care consistent with the way he would treat his family, and meet the treatment needs and personal concerns of his patients.
In his private life, Dr. Jim and his wife Polly have two lovely daughters. One daughter, Ellen, is currently in dental school at OHSU and will be a third generation dentist! We expect to see her soon at West End Dental. Outside of the office, Dr. Jim enjoys exercising, skiing, biking, kiteboarding, playing guitar, and spending time in The Gorge.
