Do You Brush the Roof of Your Mouth Each Day?

Posted on 3/21/2022 by Office of Dr. James A. Krippaehne
Do You Brush the Roof of Your Mouth Each Day?Most people brush their teeth regularly. While some people remember to brush other parts of the mouth like gums and tongue, they forget about the roof. Like any other oral part, it is essential to clean the roof of your mouth. If you want to keep your oral health in excellent condition, we advise that you clean your teeth regularly. If possible, you should clean the roof of your mouth twice a day. There are several reasons why cleaning the roof of your mouth is very important.

Helps Remove Bacteria

When you brush the roof of your mouth regularly, you help get rid of bacteria. Like it is the case with your gums, tongue, and teeth, bacteria will settle on the roof of your mouth if it is not cleaned regularly. The presence of harmful bacteria in your mouth is risky because it can result in oral infections like tooth decay. Besides, the harmful bacteria will wear down the enamel and expose your tooth to several other problems. Thankfully, you can prevent all that by regularly brushing the roof of your mouth. Therefore, when brushing other parts of the mouth like gums and tongue, you should also remember the roof of your mouth.

Prevents Bad Breath

While the tongue has a bigger influence in causing bad breath, the roof of your mouth could also result in the same. If you don't brush the roof of your mouth regularly, bacteria will start accumulating. When bacteria pile up, it will cause a foul odour. This is why it is necessary to brush the roof of your mouth and keep it clean. However, when brushing this area, you should be gentle. Brushing it too hard could result in bleeding.
