How fluoride affects your oral health

Posted on 2/21/2022 by Office of Dr. James A. Krippaehne
How fluoride affects your oral healthThere are several options that you can take to improve your dental health. Regular dental visits are important if you are to retain or restore your optimal oral health. At our dental practice, for instance, our dentists can examine your oral condition to determine whether you have any underlying oral issues and can therefore start corrective measures. Dental fluoride can be used as a preventive or corrective treatment for a range of oral issues.

Fluoride Strengthens Your Teeth

Fluoride strengthens your teeth by making the enamel more resistant to acid action. Your teeth can therefore withstand the effects that come with acids in the mouth, and therefore you will be able to prevent tooth decay and cavities. Our dentists advise that you use toothpaste that has fluoride as it can be beneficial to your teeth. Children can also be introduced to fluoride since their teeth are still developing. In this way, they can grow to have strong healthy teeth.

Some dental experts have also discovered that fluoride can stop further decay of damaged teeth. Therefore, if you already have decayed teeth, you can stop the process by applying fluoride to the affected areas. The dentist will also recommend use of topical fluoride where they apply the fluoride directly to the teeth. You will have healthy teeth and strong ones after the topical application of fluoride and drinking water that has fluoride in it.
