What You Need to Know About the Dental Implant Recovery Process

If you're considering getting a dental implant, you may be wondering what the recovery process is like. Dental implants are typically used as replacements for missing teeth, and they work by fusing to your jawbone or gums. This means that there's no need for dentures, bridges, or other removable appliances. This blog post will cover all of the details about what happens during the dental implant recovery process so that you can decide if it's something that would be right for you!

What Is A Dental Implant, And How Does It Work?

A dental implant is a metal rod that's surgically placed into the jawbone. A custom abutment, or connector piece, is then attached to it, and an artificial tooth (or teeth) is permanently cemented onto this abutment. The replacement tooth will look just like your natural one!

The surgery isn't too invasive, and you can be up and about in no time afterward. You may experience some discomfort for a few days. Still, most people only need painkillers during recovery rather than something stronger like antibiotics - talk with your dentist about what would work best for you personally, though!

What To Expect During The Recovery Process

Once the implant has been placed, and your temporary crown or bridge is attached, you'll be up and about in no time! You may experience some discomfort for a few days, but this should gradually decrease over time as things heal.

For the first three months after surgery, it's important to avoid chewing on that side of your mouth - not doing so could damage newly formed bone tissue! This includes gumming solid foods at least until you reach month four. After this point, you're free to eat whatever you want again after this point, though admittedly, there will still probably be soft foods on the menu for a while longer!

After six weeks have passed surgery, your dentist will remove your temporary tooth and replace it with a permanent one. This means that you can start brushing your new replacement too! Your dentist may want to take x-rays every six months for the first year after surgery, but afterward, you'll only need them once or twice per year - unless, of course, something goes wrong beforehand, in which case they'll likely be more often than not.
