Is Oral Health Less Important Than Physical Health?

Posted on 7/7/2020 by Office of Dr. James A. Krippaehne
Is Oral Health Less Important Than Physical Health? Many people talk about the health of their bodies, whether it is weight management or ensuring that we get proper sleep, physical health is a big concern- and rightfully so. However, while it is important to ensure that our bodies are in the best condition they can be, oral health is often left out of the conversation.

A lot of folks consider oral health as less important than physical health because it is just “one part” of your body and “you don't need white teeth to live”. This line of thinking is dangerous overall and doesn't reflect the real importance of your oral health- which is just as important as physical health.

Why Oral Health Is Vital

Oral health doesn't just revolve around how white your teeth are, there are many components that make up your mouth that can be compromised if improper care is followed. For example, if you allow bacteria to take over, they will cause your teeth to decay down to the pulp, there will be immense pain with the possibility of an infection traveling to your jaw. This is a very extreme example of course, but it shows one of the consequences of ignoring the health of your mouth!

One thing that many take for granted is that we use our mouths every day, think about how much you use your teeth the speak and eat. If your teeth are gone, your daily life becomes substantially different than what you are used to. Practicing the standard twice a day brushing habits will go a long way in avoiding such complications.
