How to Get the Most Benefit Out of Vegetable Juice Without Tooth Damage

Posted on 6/22/2020 by Office of Dr. James A. Krippaehne
How to Get the Most Benefit Out of Vegetable Juice Without Tooth DamageAs part of a holistic and nutritional diet or a well-balanced and more sustainable way of life, vegetable juices are now more popular than ever. This is true for all age groups across nationalities. Regular demand for vegetable juices have been reported by most restaurants and you cannot open a magazine without, it seems, an advice column about all the benefits of vegetable juice. But it's wise to understand that they also pose some risk to your teeth.

Vegetable Juice and Your Teeth

While the ingredients of vegetables are good for your body, including your teeth, in their juice form, they are not as innocent as you think, for your oral health. That's because the acid is bad news for your teeth and vegetable juice, well, has acid in it. Admittedly, some juices are more acidic than others and this has to be weighed with the overall nutritional benefits of juicing.

Getting the Most Benefit Out of Vegetable Juice Without Damaging Your Teeth

One of the easiest ways in which you can get all the benefit of vegetable juice without posing any problems to your teeth is to have it with a straw. Although plastic straws are facing bans in some regions, one can always turn to reusable straws or straws not made of plastic. Another way is to identify vegetables with high concentrations of acid and avoid them. You could also dilute them with fruit juice or water to lower the acid content. Our dentists suggest that you finish your vegetable juice quickly and not have it in small sips over long periods.

Should I Worry About Having Vegetable Juice?

If you are careful about not having too much vegetable juice with a high acid content, you need not worry. But it helps to visit our dentists periodically to get a thorough assessment of your dental condition.
