If they each enough of your teeth, they can cause tooth decay and even gum disease. Brushing often helps remove these bacteria. However, can you brush your teeth too much? You can brush your teeth too much. Besides doing damage to your teeth, it also damages your gums. When you brush too much, your gums take a real beating. Toothbrush bristles are abrasive and scratch up your gums. If you brush too often, your gums don't have time to heal between brushing. These microscopic wounds can let bacteria in your body and cause infection. How to Avoid Brushing Too MuchIf you notice your gums aching, it may be because you brush too often. At most, you should be brushing three times a day. Normally, you should stick to just two times a day. A sign that you may be brushing too hard or too often is if your gums bleed. Bleeding gums indicate that there are serious wounds or inflammation in your gums. If you notice bleeding while brushing, you should stop immediately. If your gums bleed every time you brush, try being gentler. If gum bleeding continues for more than a few days, you may have another problem. Gum bleeding may also indicate the early stages of gum disease. When bacteria attack our gums, it can cause them to bleed. If you have bleeding gums, please contact our office.
