Ways of Telling if You Actually Brush for Long Enough

Posted on 6/15/2019 by Office of Dr. James A. Krippaehne
Ways of Telling if You Actually Brush for Long EnoughWe know that when you are brushing your teeth, the act of brushing may seem like an eternity. You are just standing there, brushing your teeth, looking in the mirror at yourself- it takes forever.

We know that you want to do a good job when it comes to brushing your teeth, but how long does it have to take for a good job to happen?

About two minutes, as it turns out. Two minutes is usually long enough to get your teeth squeaky clean. But how long does it take to get to that interminable two minute mark? We have some tips you can use to make sure you are brushing for all of that glorious two minutes.

Tips for Brushing

There are several ways that you can tell whether or not you have brushed the right about of time without double checking the two minute mark. First, glide your tongue all the way across each tooth, front and back. Do they feel smooth and pretty, or did you miss a spot? If you missed a spot, now is the time to go back and brush them. Also, have a look at your teeth in the mirror, just to make sure you didn't leave any food particles lying around.

You can also time yourself for those two minutes. There are toothbrushes with timers built in, so that you can see exactly how long you have left to brush. An alarm will sound when your time is up. You can use your phone, smartwatch or computer to time yourself as well.

If you are musical, hum the Happy Birthday song when you are brushing. Two times singing the Happy Birthday song is enough to ensure your teeth are cleaned and ready to go.

If you have questions about whether or not your teeth are getting enough brushing, why not talk to us? We would be happy to make sure your teeth are sparkling white!
