How to Make Sure Oral Health Stays a Priority Even When on Vacation

But when you're busy enjoying new sights and experiences, it's easy to let your oral health routine fall by the wayside. This can lead to problems like cavities, gum disease, and bad breath. Luckily, there are a few simple things you can do to make sure your oral health stays a priority even when you're on vacation.

Pack Your Oral Care Essentials

Before you leave, pack all of your essential oral care items, including your toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash. If you have any special needs, like a retainer or dentures, be sure to pack those as well. If you're flying, remember to pack your liquids in travel-sized containers to comply with airport security regulations.

Stick to Your Routine

As much as possible, try to stick to your regular oral care routine while you're on vacation. This means brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing once a day, and using mouthwash at least once a day. If you find it difficult to brush your teeth after every meal, make sure to at least rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash.

Choose Vacation-Friendly Foods

When you're on vacation, you're likely to indulge in some of your favorite treats. However, it's important to choose foods that are gentle on your teeth. Avoid sugary snacks, sticky candies, and acidic foods, which can erode your tooth enamel and increase your risk of cavities.

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is important for your overall health, and it's also important for your oral health. When you're dehydrated, your mouth produces less saliva, which can lead to dry mouth and bad breath. Dry mouth can also increase your risk of cavities and gum disease.

Don't Skip Your Dental Checkups

If you're due for a dental checkup, try to schedule it before or after your vacation. This will help you catch any potential problems early on, when they're easier to treat.

What to Do If You Have a Dental Emergency

If you have a dental emergency while you're on vacation, don't panic. There are a few things you can do to get help.

•  Call your dentist. If you have a dental emergency, the first thing you should do is call your dentist. They may be able to offer advice over the phone or schedule an appointment for you to see them as soon as possible.
•  Look for a local dentist. If you can't reach your dentist, you can look for a local dentist who can see you. Most dentists will see emergency patients, even if you're not an existing patient.
•  Go to the emergency room. If you have a serious dental emergency, such as a broken tooth or severe pain, you should go to the emergency room.

Prevention Dentistry: Your Best Defense

Prevention dentistry is the best way to keep your oral health in check, even when you're on vacation. By following these simple tips, you can help to prevent cavities, gum disease, and other oral health problems. This will help you enjoy your vacation without having to worry about your oral health.
