How Long Do Veneers Last?

Veneers are dental materials that act by covering the teeth' surface. They are made of composite or resin materials that are bonded to the teeth' surface. Enamel, which is the material that covers the teeth' surface, may be roughened to help veneers adhere to the teeth' surface. This is done to lengthen the teeth, alter their position, and change their color, among other uses.

The endurance ability of veneers depends on the material used to make them. The medium used for making each kind of veneer is different in terms of strength and durability.

Composite Veneers

Composite resin veneers are constructed of materials that match the teeth' color. They are easily applied on the teeth surface, with no special preparations of the teeth enamel before this. They last 7 to 10 years, as such they are not as durable as the porcelain-made ones. Over time, they may chip, pit, stain, and get discolored.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers fabricated of porcelain or ceramic are the best in terms of durability. They can last up to 25 years if maintained properly. They appear to be very attractive and are also tough enough to withstand mouth activities. With them, you should not worry about stains or discoloration, as they are resistant to both.

As time goes by, they are subjected to wear and tear. This may make them unfit for the work they were supposed to do initially. After a long time of usage, they may suffer from chipping, breaking, and any other kind of damage. Receding of the gum may also lead to staining.
