A common aspect of most dental emergencies is that they come with pain. It may be an injury to the face that leaves the teeth fractured, broken, or smashed out. It could be a tooth root that is inflamed and discharges pus, a condition known as an abscess. Whichever form of dental emergency you have, make sure you see a dentist as soon as you can. Common dental emergencies you may face include:

Pulpal Inflammation

There are two types of pulpitis, reversible and irreversible. Reversible pulpitis is a mild inflammation that may cause pain when consuming hot or cold foods. Urgent dental care is crucial to prevent bacterial infections from invading the dental pulp.

Irreversible pulpitis is a more severe bacterial invasion of the pulp. It is often characterized by excruciating pain that may disrupt your sleep at night. People with irreversible Pulpitis find it challenging to pinpoint the exact location of the pain.

Abscess or Localized Bacterial Infection

People with abscesses may experience excruciating pain around the infected tooth or gum tissue. It may also cause tenderness or pain in the neck or jaw. Some cases may include difficulty opening and closing the mouth or sensitivity to hot or cold foods.

Broken or Fractured Teeth

Minor fractures do not always call for an emergency since they are not usually a threat to your health. Nonetheless, consider getting a dental filling from a dentist. The filling will protect the dentin and reduce the risk of pulp inflammation. However, for major fractures, getting emergency dental care is crucial. It helps combat pain and has treatment provided to restore the tooth.

Knocked-out Tooth

Once you have your tooth knocked out, get the pieces and put them in a moist environment and clean them. Don't touch the roots with your hand. Get to our dental office to see if we can place it back. It is possible to have the tooth reinserted into the socket if you arrive within an hour.
