Can You Feel Your Teeth Shift Each Night? Call Us to Figure Out the ProblemDo you wake up in the morning and feel that your teeth have shifted into different positions? Your mouth is constantly changing, so it is certainly possible that your teeth might move as an adult. We can help you explore the reason for this change.

Grinding and Bruxism

Grinding the teeth is a major cause of shifting teeth. When you grind your teeth at night, the lower jaw juts forward and places tension onto the upper jaw. This continued behavior may affect the position of the upper arch, and with time, it can force the teeth out of alignment.

Mesial Drift

A major trauma doesn't have to occur in order for your teeth to shift. A mesial drift involves the gradual shifting of the teeth toward the center of the face. This is a common issue and poses no major health or dental concerns. However, if the problem becomes so severe that the teeth crowd or gaps form, it might be difficult for you to keep your teeth clean, and treatment may be recommended.

Gum Disease

Another culprit of shifting teeth is gum disease. This condition causes jaw bone to reabsorb, and the gums may detach. The loss of jawbone and supporting attachments allow the teeth to move or to become loose in their sockets. If you start to notice larger gaps between your teeth, gum disease may be at play.

Missing Teeth

Whether you lost a tooth due to trauma, decay, or disease, failure to replace it with a dental restoration can lead to shifting teeth. The remaining teeth may shift to fill in the new gap in your smile, and each morning when you brush, you may notice your teeth positioned a bit differently than the day before.

If you notice that your teeth are shifting out of place or your bite simply feels different, we can help. Call us today so that we can get to the bottom of your dental issue.
